Unlike my prior visit, I didn't arrive 10 minutes before closing, so had more time to examine some of the regional delights. While some of the exotic items like clam stuffies wouldn't really work in a motel visit, I did load up on regional beverages such as a Schooner's plum drink and Granny Squibb's mojito lime iced tea. I also enjoyed the Mystic Cheese Company's Finback, described as "brothy" and "buttery." The cashier guy was awesome. Can the world have more discussions about Ben's Sugar Shack maple candy and less self-scanning?

We are visiting friends in the Mystic, Connecticut area. We stayed with them for a nice home cooked meal of swordfish, potatoes, and veggies. Our desserts were from McQuade's. We had blueberry crumble, lemon tart, carrot cake, brownies and brownies with nuts. We each did a flavor taste. The brownies were very chocolatey, the lemon tart delicious, the blueberry crumble with great taste. I did not try the carrot cake. Our hostess said it was a bit dry.

Was sort of in the area so we decided to stop in. We like going in the mornings so we can buy their cronuts! They run out of them normally by mid morning, so we make it a point to go early if we are in the mood fire then. Bakery has a very large selection of delicious items. While there we also had to pivk up zone bagels.

The epitome of a great, locally-owned supermarket. Just big enough to have everything you want without being too big. Wonderful bakery that has everything from breads to pies and desserts. A lot of local seafood which is always fresh. A butcher counter with custom cuts. The prices are always reasonable too. Easily the best supermarket in the area along with their sister store in Westerly.

This was a cute place I found on yelp and was like let's check it out after the aquarium! Don't do what we did and park at the bottom of the stairs lol. I wanted to kill my husband. It was the hottest day out too! Even our son was like really all these stairs? :P anyway it was a nice market. One of the chocolate milks we did buy went bad before we even drank it but I don't know if that's totally their fault. We mainly stopped here for chocolate milk, apple cider and my hubs was curious about the coffee milk. Allergy season was starting and it's a market so my hubs got that too. I'd definitely come back here when in the area.

Mcquades has been a local family owned market since I can remember. In fact it was my 1st employer, dating back to 1994 and a whomping 4.15 an hr pay @ the westerly location. They must be doing something right to compete today and stay flourishing in a rather tough time for mom and pop brick and mortar establishments. I can certainly vouch for their quality in the meat department, floral arrangements, as well as bakery. We live in town so I frequently stop in for one and/or all of the above. I wouldn't go here looking for a bargain as the pricing is on the higher side of the spectrum, but with that comes quality. They won't have all the options that a Walmart or big y may have but they have a niche market for a lot of specialty items and there is some charm in that. I don't believe shopping is one size fits all. You may not find everything your looking for, but you could leave finding something that wasn't on the list, and those can be some of the greatest surprises. So cheers to surprises

Watch out, Google Maps takes you to the bottom. The supermarket is at the top of the hill. If you reach the area with the small stores like Mystified or Crossfit, you can walk up the stairs on the left side. Very standard supermarket with all your needed selection. Seafood in case did not look or smell fresh. They had water dripping on the seafood. They have a lot of refrigerated cooked foods ready to go but who knows how long they've been sitting there.

First thing I have to mention, it's really odd to me that this grocery store is literally on a dead end street, hidden behind trees. Never really experienced that before. I love quality focused, small, locally owned grocery stores. The feel and experience is a little different than your large chain stores. I visited McQuade's a couple times while in the area. The store is clean, bright and organized. Both times I visited staff were very friendly and attentive. Prices were more reasonable than I anticipated. What I appreciated the most is that the produce section was impeccably put together. The fruits were perfectly stacked. All of the fruits we purchased were great. Definitely recommend!

In order to escape NYC and the craziness that comes with New Years in Manhattan, I went up to Connecticut for the holidays. A lot of grocery shopping at McQuade's ensued, including buying enough to make for New Years Eve. We ordered the King crab legs from here which were quite small, to the point where there were jokes about "prince crab legs" being thrown around. Despite the size, though, they were delicious. In addition to the crab legs, we found quite a lot here! They were (unfortunately) out of eggnog, but we were able to pick up pistachio and banana bread, tons of spices, fried cauliflower and grilled vegetables.
